Olivia is two months old!
Olivia is two months old!!! It's hard to believe that two months have passed since she joined our family! We have been back in Saudi one week, so we are still getting situated and adjusted to life back in the Kingdom. :) Here are some stats for you on our little sweet pea!
Height: 21.75 inches
Weight: 10.25 pounds
Sleeping: She only had jetlag for a day and then started sleeping from 7pm to 6:30 am. She still wakes up once or twice a night to eat but goes right back down.
Activities: Smiling! She does really well with tummy time and we try to do this at least three times a day. She rolls over from her tummy to back constantly! She loves her bouncer and her swing in particular. She is usually fussy between 4-6 pm and then from 6-8 it either gets worse or better. Other than that period of time and she's generally a happy camper, unless she's hungry!
Highlights:
* She made her first international flight to Saudi!
* She rolls from tummy to back with ease now!
* She eats every 2.5 hours and for the life of me I can't get her to go any longer without melting down. LOL! All in due time!
* She started smiling and is happy to give them out!
We love our beautiful Livy Lou!

The Rest of September and Traveling Back to Saudi with Two Kids....
The rest of September went by soooooo quickly! I had my hands full with our two beautiful girls and was still adjusting to being a parent of two. We did enjoy the extra time to be with friends and family in the US and the extra few weeks also gave us the opportunity to tweak Olivia's reflux meds until we found what worked best for her. We sure did miss Daddy though!
Savannah had the opportunity to participate in our Shreveport church's Mother's Day Out program. Three days a week she had a wonderful opportunity to spend time with other preschoolers and do fantastic activities. She absolutely LOVED her teachers and her class! She was always ready to go to school and I was so thankful for her to have an extra outlet. This time also gave me the opportunity to try to settle into a more predictable groove with Olivia. :) Here she is on the first day of "school."
Olivia and I both got sick several times during the month with a stomach virus first and then a cold/sinus bug. This made life a bit interesting, but through it all our little girl was a fighter! Once everyone was feeling better we spent lots of time just hanging out together.
Remember how I said the month was busy?? Yea, those are the only pictures I took on my camera almost the entire month!
As September drew to a close, I spent the last few days of the month getting ready to go back to Saudi. The girls and I were scheduled to fly out on October 2nd so I started trying to pack a week and a half in advance. After living in Shreveport for three months, it took a lot of time and effort to "uproot" all of our stuff and get it back into suitcases and boxes. I was amazed at how LONG it took me to get everything together and how much stuff we had to get back. Packing to return to Saudi is a persnickity thing because the goal is to utilize every pound of suitcase space that you have! It becomes a puzzle of sorts where you have to try different packing arrangements. Sometimes you pack a suitcase until there is no space left in it, but when you weigh it it's only 30 lbs. That means there is 20 lbs of unused luggage allowance, and let me tell you those pounds are GOLDEN! Think of all of the rotel cans, cream of golden mushroom soup, shoes, and other items that you can't get in Saudi! Since I'm already slightly OCD about things I spent lots of time trying to maximize our space and was literally still getting things together and arranged up until five minutes before we left for Houston. Whew! One large box, three large suitcases, 1 duffle bag, 2 carry-on's, 2 car seats, and 1 double stroller later we were ready to go to Houston!
We decided to go to my grandfather's house the night before our flight to help break up the trip and give us the opportunity to see Pawpaw. We had a great time visiting with sweet Pawpaw and letting him meet Olivia. Believe it or not, I ended up rearranging my suitcase stuff again because I realized I had one bag that was over- I told you I was OCD, remember.
Finally the day of our flight came, so we loaded up ourselves and all of our stuff and headed toward the airport. We had to stop by CP Chem's headquarters to pick up Olivia's passport because her Saudi visa had just come through. Unfortunately when I got to HQ, they couldn't locate her passport at first. Talk about your heart skipping a beat- we were supposed to leave in less than three hours! After ten minutes or so they were able to find it and we were on our way. It ended up raining the entire way to the airport so once we arrived I knew I was going to be running short on time. Once I got us checked in, we had to say very quick goodbyes to my sweet parents and then get through security to our gate.
Ten minutes after we arrived at the gate we started boarding the plane. We always fly KLM and they are great about letting families board the plane first to get settled before everyone else gets on. As the other passengers were boarding I happened to look up and see an old friend from college walking down the aisle!!! I couldn't believe that she was going to be on our flight- small world! She is a flight attendant and was on her way to Europe to work a series of flights over there for a few weeks. It was such a blessing to see my friend Katie!!! Seeing her helped ease a lot of the nervous energy and apprehension I had about flying by myself with a seven week old and a two year old!
Our seats were on the bulkhead which was great because it allowed Olivia to be in a bassinet once we were in the air. KLM's service is always fantastic, and this trip was no exception. The flight attendant that was assigned to our section was a godsend! She took the liberty to move the kind couple that was sitting next to us to new seats further up the plane so that the girls and I could have the fourseater to ourselves. THIS WAS HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! It allowed Savannah to lay across the seats comfortably when she went to sleep. God bless that sweet woman who took pity on us!
Olivia was awake for the first four hours of the flight or so. Once she fell asleep she was out for the rest of the flight. Savannah fell asleep about six hours into the flight, then slept two and a half, then woke up once they started meal service. Did I mention that she didn't take a nap that day either? My poor little munchkin was not a happy camper as you can imagine! After she cried for five minutes, I got her to calm down and helped her get comfortable again. I was able to get about a hour to an hour and a half of sleep on the first flight, so I was pooped too (keep in mind I didn't have a good sleep reserve to begin with since I had a 7 week old).
When we finally arrived in Amsterdam, I thanked the good Lord for getting us through the flight with very little trouble and was ready to see Brent. My kind husband agreed to meet us halfway in Amsterdam to help get us back to Saudi. When we got off of the plane, I had to wait for our stroller to be brought up. One of the flight attendants was helping me by holding Savannah (who was crying because she was so tired), and we looked down and could see Brent at the end of the jetway. Unfortunately because of security he couldn't walk down to meet us and I had to stay until the stroller came. The kind flight attendant offered to walk Savannah down to Brent and let me tell you it was a Kodak moment. The minute that Savannah saw her daddy, she jumped into his arms and was the happiest two year old in the world! Those tears turned to smiles that lasted the rest of the day!
Our layover in Amsterdam was about four and a half hours so we were able to go to the lounge, get some food, and relax. Savannah was entranced with Brent and wanted to spend all of her time with Daddy. Olivia slept almost the entire time, which was a blessing! I was able to catch a few z's and felt so much better afterwards.
Our flight to Dammam, Saudi Arabia was so much easier with Brent's help! He kept Savannah occupied and I took care of Olivia so we were both able to have down time at different points.
When we arrived in Saudi, we got through passport control and headed back to Jubail and our compound. It felt great to be home and have the trip behind us!
The next three days were a bit of a blur, but once the girls got over jet lag, and we got the bags unpacked we started trying to make our new routine here in Saudi.

| A Monitor Shot: Savannah decided to ride around her bedroom on the scooter instead of staying in bed. Couldn't resist snapping a picture! |

Olivia is one month old!
On September 9th, Olivia was one month old!! It is hard to believe that a month has already flown by. Here are a few stats of our sweet girl for you!
Height: 20.5 in
Weight: 8.5 lbs
Activities: sleeping, tummy time, crying, eating, you get the idea
Sleeping: Baby girl has definitely oriented her days and nights correctly. She sleeps from 7 pm to 7 am, but wakes up every 2 to 2.5 hours or so to eat.
Highlights of the Month:
* Olivia rolled over for the first time when she was two weeks old!!! We were stunned, but she is very strong!! She only did it once, but she does really well during tummy time.
* Poor baby girl was diagnosed with reflux, just like her big sister, but has started medication and is doing much better! She also had a stomach virus at three weeks old, but fought through it!
We love you Olivia!

Daddy Going Back to Saudi
We were truly soooooo fortunate to have Brent be able to take off nearly an entire month of work to join us in the US. We enjoyed him for the entire month of August and I dreaded the idea of him returning to Saudi!!! Right after Olivia turned three weeks old, his vacation started coming to a close. We got his bags packed and everything ready to go, but our hearts were so sad! Brent had been so helpful with Savannah and she had grown quite attached to having him around during the days. While we knew our separation would only be for a few weeks, we hated to be apart at all. Sadly, the morning came when we had to say goodbye, so I managed to get a few last minute pictures that Savannah could look at while Daddy was gone.
We love you Daddy and we are counting down the days till we see you again!

The rest of August....
The rest of the month of August was crazy busy, hard, and wonderful all at the same time. We spent the month enjoying our family, playing with the kids, and trying to catch extra z's whenever we could. :)
The week after Olivia's birth we had a very special visitor from North Carolina, Brent's dad. Jay is spending lots of time working in Houston so he was able to jump up our way for a couple of days and meet his new grandbaby. We had a great visit and Savannah enjoyed the time with her "Grumpa."
Brent was able to take the entire month off to stay with us in Shreveport which was absolutely fantastic. His help was invaluable, and I couldn't have imagined the month without him! Since Olivia was dependent on me for most of her care, Brent took the reigns with Savannah. Let me tell you, she absolutely LOVED having so much time with her Daddy! They spent lots of time together doing all sorts of things! Rocking in the rocking chair, eating at Chick-fil-A, swimming in the pool, and taking Scarlet for walks were all part of the fun!
Little Miss Olivia was busy too! She spent lots of time eating, sleeping, and she even got some tummy time in there too. :) We spent the month getting to know our new little angel and trying to make her comfortable. Our little sweetie does end up having acid reflux, just like her big sister, but thanks to our fantastic pediatrician in Shreveport we were able to get it under control very quickly. :) We are thoroughly enjoying the snuggles and cuddles with sweet Olivia.
Savannah adjusted to Olivia really well! She learned to say "Baby Sister" very quickly and was very interested in helping us take care of her. To my delight and surprise she hasn't shown any jealousy of her sister, and instead seems to just understand intuitively that Olivia is part of our family.
We had an eventful time trying to get a passport picture for Olivia. After two trips to the store, three trips to the post office, and two photo shoots at home, our application was finally accepted! If you've never had to apply for an infant passport, let me give you a run down of what is required. The infant has to be awake with their eyes open looking in the general direction f the camera. What do newborns generally do most of the time.... SLEEP, so it was hard to get to the store while she was awake. Since an infant can't sit up on their own, you have to prop them up and hope that your hands and fingers don't show in the picture! It can be a frustrating experience, but after it's said and done it's laughable! Here are a few of the pictures from our photo shoot before we edited and cropped them.
We were truly blessed with lots of visitors during the month, both local and far away. Brent's mom and sister came down for a visit and spent the weekend with us. Savannah loved spending time with her Memaw and I'm so thankful Aunt Jessica got to meet Olivia. Unfortunately, I didn't get ANY pictures of their weekend here. Sorry Memaw and Aunt Jess- we'll do better next time!
Right before Brent left some of our closest friends, the Simmons, came up from Houston to see us. This sweet family drove from Houston to Shreveport and back all in one Saturday! Needless to say, it made us feel pretty special and loved, and we really enjoyed seeing our treasured friends. Grant, Brooke, Audri, Levi, and Kai were all able to meet Olivia and visit with us. We did lots of playing and even had lunch at Chick-fil-A. :) Thank you for visiting Simmons family!
We managed to even get a few family photos together...
All in all the rest of the month FLEW by with all of the changes and activities! Adjusting to life with a newborn has it's ups and downs but we were so truly blessed!
