Last week was the one year anniversary of my Mammaw's arrival in heaven. It's hard to believe that an entire year has passed since her sweet spirit left this earth. Mammaw was one of the most amazing women and she loved her family with her whole heart.
During the last two years of her life she battled terminal liver cancer, but that didn't stop her. Each day Mammaw lived life loving those around her and her only concern was for others. She fought the good fight in a manner that every follower of Christ hopes to. Each day her faith and trust were in the Lord, and I am so thankful for her example!
Savannah was born just ten weeks before she passed. After we got her birth certificate, passport, and visa from Saudi we were able to make our first trip back to the States with our new baby. The week before we were due to leave, we heard that Mammaw wasn't doing well and that the doctors didn't think she had much time left. We were able to fly into Houston into September 9, 2011 and immediately went to see my grandmother. Introducing Savannah to her Great Grandmother was one of the proudest moments I've ever had. Mammaw had been waiting to meet the latest addition to the family. She wanted to know that Savannah was okay and that we had made it home. I will forever, cherish those moments we shared that afternoon and the next morning. Savannah gave her several wonderful smiles, and Mammaw had the opportunity to hold her. The next morning we went to go see Mammaw again, and she wasn't feeling well, but sweet Mammaw spent a few more minutes with Savannah. That was the last visit we had with Mammaw, two days later, she went to be with Jesus.
I'm so thankful that Savannah had the opportunity to meet Mammaw, and her family is so blessed by the legacy that she left. Mammaw, we love you so much and rejoice in the knowledge that we will see you again one day.
