Savannah's Surgery

Savannah had her dermoid cyst removed on Friday, and the surgery went beautifully!  The night before surgery, Mom and I decided to have a little fun with some bunny ears she had picked up for Savannah.  :)  Sweet pea waved at us the entire time we were taking pictures.  Too cute!

Friday morning we reported to the surgery center about 7:15.  Some of our good friends from church came to visit with us, showing their support!  We were truly blessed and humbled by their presence.  We were taken back pretty quickly and she was prepped for surgery.  The anesthesiologist came by and explained what she would be given and how to proceed.  The nurse brought her an oral sedative to help her relax before they gave her the real stuff.  Poor baby!  It was pitiful to see her go from playing with her toys really hard to being too out of it to pick them up.  Unfortunately, they miscalculated the time that we would have to wait for the previous surgeries to be completed, and the sedative was starting to wear off right as she was taken into the operating room.  Oh well!  :)
Such a happy girl!

Starting to feel a little sleepy.

An hour later, the surgeon called us back and let us know that everything had gone really well!  After receiving recovery instructions, we were allowed to go take care of Savannah while she came out of the anesthesia.  This was the hardest part of the whole thing.  She was sooooo disoriented that it was hard to comfort her.  A few warm blankets and a bottle helped make life much better!  :)  Her poor little eye was quite swollen, but other than that she looked great!  The nurse did apologize for the surgical team as it took them 14 sticks to finally get a vein for Savannah's IV.  Fortunately, Savannah was already out for that part.  Overall, we were VERY pleased with our experience and the care she received.  Everyone was excellent!

We made it home by 11:00 am, and by this point Savy was back to herself (just tired).  We FaceTime'd with Daddy and enjoyed being able to see him!
FaceTime with Daddy!
She crashed about thirty minutes later and slept for two and a half hours.  After her nap, she was completely back to normal and was ready to play!

The next day we received the most precious Get Well cake pops from some dear friends here in Shreveport!  They were soooooo cute!  Thank you Matt, Leslie, and Luke!
Aren't they cute!

YUM!!!!
On Saturday night we were able to remove her bandages and have our first look at the incision. WOW!!!  The surgeon did such an amazing job!!!!!  The incision was made perfectly in the fold of her eyelid so that once it heals it will be completely hidden.  What I didn't expect was that it was so thin- we couldn't even see the stitches.  It looked like he had super glued the skin back together!  :)  We are so pleased and happy with the results of her surgery!  Here are a few pictures of her playing on Sunday.
I'm busy Mom!  You can hardly see the line in her left eyelid.

Just a tiny little red line.

Doesn't it look great for two days after surgery!

Love my Sweet Pea!
Savannah's recovery has continued to go perfectly!  At this point, we just have to make sure that she keeps her hands off of her eye and that her hair stays out of her eye.  We are so thankful to the Lord for protecting our precious girl and guiding the surgeon's hands!  Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers and support!  We cannot tell you how much they mean!

Savannah's Pre-Op Visit

This morning we had Savannah's pre-op visit for her surgery.  Everything went well and we are cleared for Friday.  The doctor was able to re-examine Savannah's cyst (the last exam was at the end of December) and again reaffirmed that we were doing the best thing by removing it now.  The surgery expected to last thirty minutes to an hour, and she should only have a few stitches.  He expects her to bounce back quickly and we just have to make sure that her wound stays clean.  We report to the surgery center bright and early at 6:30 on Friday morning.  :) Please continue to keep us in your prayers....
You can see the bulge of the cyst in the outer corner of her left eye.
Thanks everyone!

The States and Life Lately

It's been a while since I last posted, because life has been busy lately! Last week, I spent almost every day trying to get ready for Savannah and I to make the trip back to the States on Monday night.  Packing is an entirely new adventure now that we have a baby.  :)  In the past, I used to pack maybe half a suitcase and then load up when we get to the States; however, I have quite a bit more to pack now that we have Savannah.  An item has to be deemed absolutely necessary to make it in the suitcase!  LOL! Anyway, after four days of packing, cleaning, and preparing, Savannah and I were ready to go.  That's when the fun started......

During the first week of March Savannah got her first tooth, and then her second tooth came up the day we left.  As many mother's will attest, teething isn't always fun and can make your little pumpkin feel poorly.  We noticed that each time she was getting close to popping a tooth out, she would have a bit of diarrhea.  Well, about 5:00 pm on Monday night (the night we left) she started having lots of diarrhea.  We were not worried by this because she was cutting a tooth that day; however, I soon learned that it was just the beginning!  My poor baby was sick the ENTIRE trip home, all 32 hours (door to door travel time)! Over the course of the trip she was probably sick at least 20 times.  The crazy part about it is that she never ran fever, never stopped eating, and was generally her happy self.  As a result of so much pooping, she has a monstrous diaper rash; the first diaper rash of her life.   Poor sweetie pie, but I have to say that I have such an AWESOME baby girl!  She has made the journey back and forth three separate times, and even though she was sick this time she was sooo good on the trip. Unfortunately, this little stomach bug stuck with her for four days.  Yesterday was the first time since we left that things seem to be back to normal.  We're all hoping that we are done with this bug!

The main reason Savannah and I came back to the States for a visit is for her to have a small cyst above her left eye removed.  We go for pre-op on Tuesday, and then Savy will have surgery to remove the dermoid cyst on Friday. At our last visit, the doctor indicated that the surgery would only be 30 minutes to an hour long with one or two stitches in the crease of her eyelid.  Her scar won't even be very visible.  Please keep her in  your prayers as we get ready for her little procedure.
In other Savannah news, as I said earlier, she has two teeth now.  She loves feeling her teeth with her tongue and has tried to nibble on me more than once.  Hehe!  She is now saying Momma too; and it mostly comes out when she is upset.  :) My favorite new activity is her wave!  As soon as she sees herself in the mirror she starts waving.  It is soooooo cute! I took her to her pediatrician here on Friday for a check up, and she was 19 lbs 1 oz (60th percentile) and 27 inches long (50th percentile).  Overall, our little sweet pea is doing great!

Savannah has really enjoyed being around Scarlet and squeals with excitement when she gets close to her.  Scarlet on the other hand...... well, she's not quite sure what to think of Savannah; however, she loves eating up the food Savy drops.  I'm sure their sisterly bond will be great!

We're looking forward to our time here in the States, but we both miss Brent!  Daddy had to stay behind this trip in order to save his vacation for later on; however, we're making sure we pick up a few special treats for him while we're here.  We love you, Brent!

That's the news for now.  We'll keep you updated on Savannah's procedure this week! In the meantime, here's a few pictures to enjoy from this week.....   :)

Bahrain!

Last Thursday and Friday, we took a quick trip and spent the weekend in Bahrain.  It was our first trip back to Bahrain since November 2010 and the Arab Spring uprising.  It's crazy to think that the last time we were there I was only seven weeks pregnant, and how we have an eight month old! Needless to say, things have changed quite a bit for us and for Bahrain, but it was still wonderful to visit some of our favorite spots!

The day started out with a bang while in the car traveling over.  We had been anxiously awaiting the arrival that Savannah would get her first tooth, and we happily discovered that had popped through!
On our way to Bahrain!  Oh, look- I have a tooth!
Our first stop was our favorite framing shop.  Mustafa, at Sheema Framing in Adliya, is our trusted framer who always produces excellent work!  He has finished about 6 pieces for us in the past, and we have been eager to get back to Bahrain to visit his shop.  We dropped off three pieces and can't wait to see the finished product!
Brent, Savannah, and Mustafa
Next we visited our favorite lunch spot, Coco's!  When we lived in Bahrain, we made the ten minute walk to Coco's at least once a week.
Lunch at Coco's!

Kind of a goofy picture of booth of them, but the best I've got!  :)
We scooted over City Centre Mall and did some shopping and hanging out the rest of the afternoon.  It was fabulous being able to try on the clothes in a dressing room (no, we don't have dressing rooms here in Saudi).  I was especially excited to visit this......
Marble Slab!
I totally got a double doozie cookie too; for later of course!
At this point we were pooped and headed back to the hotel room.  It was wonderful to relax and each other's company.  For dinner we dined on Mexican food, and it was fabulous!
Hi Mom!
I'm coming to get you!
I love this picture!  Mrs. Personality
The next morning we went to Ric's, and enjoyed some delicious BACON AND SAUSAGE!!!!!!    Poor Savannah passed out at the very end; it was quite comical!
I'm ready for another day!
YUM!
Poor pumpkin was exhausted!
Did I mention that I had to drive the entire weekend?  I have always been a little nervous about driving over here, because they drive so crazy; however, I've apparently been here too long because it was surprisingly easy!  On another side note, a crazy sandstorm also hit on Wednesday, and hung with us the entire time, but it couldn't stop our fun!  :)
You can see how hazy it is.
Overall, we had a fabulous weekend!  It was great to be back in Bahrain, and Savannah got another stamp in her passport!

Eight Months Old

On Thursday, Savannah turned eight months old!  Can't believe our sweet girl has been here 2/3 of a year!  We are so thankful for our little pumpkin!  We went to Bahrain this weekend, but the really big news was that Savannah's first tooth popped up Thursday morning!  Our little sweet pea is growing up.  Enjoy the pictures!

Destinations, Dada, and Dogs

The last week has been busy for a variety of reasons, but I thought I would fill everyone in on some of the fun things that have been going on in our lives.  Since Savannah was born we have made two trips home, but we haven't had a chance to take a truly "vacation" vacation since November of 2010.  Needless to say, a vacation has been a long time coming!  Both Brent and I wanted to do some more traveling abroad this year, but we weren't quite sure what traveling with a baby would be like.  In the past, we have traveled from city to city with 12-14 hour days of sightseeing.  Every day was in a new place, a new hotel, and a new world to discover.  This is great for two adults, but throwing a baby into that type of experience sounded like a disaster to us.  We wanted something that was both relaxing and exploratory, where we could still see lots of new places.  After lots of discussion, we had the idea that a cruise might be just the ticket.  It offers us the chance to see different cities/countries, yet provides the convenience of providing transportation, food, and most importantly not having to move our luggage around constantly.  Several Google searches later, we had a list of different cruising options.  We finally decided on a 12-day Mediterranean cruise at the very end of May and early June.  On Thursday, we spoke with a wonderful "Vacation Planner" from Royal Caribbean and she helped us get a HUGE (for cruise standards) room at a discounted price because they were trying to sell them out!  Brent and I are PUMPED and can't wait to go on vacation with Savannah!  This will be the first of many wonderful vacations together as a family!  :)  During the trip we will see Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Ephesus, Athens, Santorini, and Naples.  CANNOT WAIT!

Speaking of Savannah, our little Miss has had quite the week!  Much to Brent's absolute delight, she started saying "Dadadadadada."  Talk about melt your heart!!  We have had the best time listening to her "talk" to us and express herself.  I'm pretty sure her bottom two teeth are starting to come in as well.  Her gums are really raised and turning white, but who knows, watch them not show up for another few months!  Those of you who know Savannah well are well aware of the fact that tummy time has been her arch nemesis since the day she was born.  Savannah's severe reflux meant that she often threw up during tummy time and was uncomfortable.  Many tears and screaming sessions have finally paid off, and she is beginning to enjoy herself.  She is rolling around all over the place and has figured out how to go backwards on her tummy, but we're still working on going forward.  You can tell that she wants to move so badly, she just hasn't figured it out yet!  I'm sure it's going to be here soon enough.  :)

Another highlight of the past week and a half has been Gizmo, the fun loving shih tzu that we have been dogsitting for.  Don't tell Scarlet, but Savannah LOVES him!  Every morning as soon as she wakes up and hears his little collar jingle, she's looking for him.  She just talks and squeals with delight when he comes near her.  She is mezmorized!  Gizzy, as we affectionately call him, is really good around her.  He gets really brave and will come sit beside her and he will even let her "pet" him, of course I'm right there making sure she's not grabbing a fist full of his hair.  The only thing that Gizmo hasn't been as crazy about is when Savannah starts chasing him in her walker.  Believe it or not, our little almost eight month old is quite the speed demon when she gets in her walker.  Gizmo's only defense is to jump from couch to couch and stay high enough out of her reach.  He's such a good sport!

On Thursday, we went to the old Jubail Central Market.  This is an open air market where they sell veggies, fish, and meat.  Brent has been to the market before, but I'm sad to say that after living here for two and a half years, this was my first trip.  We picked up some veggies and some fresh tuna and shrimp. It was a unique "Saudi" experience, and I'm sure the first of many visits.

This coming weekend we are headed to Bahrain for a chance to escape from the "Magic Kingdom" for a bit.  We head out on Thursday morning and will return Friday afternoon.  We are planning to visit some of our favorite spots that we came to love while we lived there.  This will be Savannah's first trip there as well, so are looking forward to a fun outing.

Here's a few random pictures from our week.......
