The next two days of our vacation were spent exploring the island of Koh Samui. We were set to leave early Sunday morning right after breakfast, but had to delay our adventure because of rain. We spent a lazy morning enjoying the rainy weather and relaxing. It was great!

| It was a bit unusual not to see ARABIC on the labels! |

| Power nap before we go. |
Shortly after lunch the weather cleared up and we decided to go ahead and spend the afternoon out and about. The weather stayed cloudy and overcast the rests of the day, but the sun stayed away! Our first stop was at a famous rock formation and view on the island. We enjoyed having a look around and snapping some family pictures. :)
Our next stop was rather unusual, it was to see a mummified Buddhist monk.... yes, you read that correctly..... a mummified monk. A popular shrine and temple has been created to honor this particular monk. It was interesting to say the least.
 |
| Yes, that's the mummy in the glass case. |
While we were in the temple, one of the Buddhist monks put a bracelet on Savannah's arm. Later that day I realized it has something to do with Buddhism so we took it off. I snapped a shot of it nonetheless.

| One of her favorite perches in the entire world! |
Our next stop was the highlight of the day! We decided to take Savannah to an animal park that had different shows with animals performing and the opportunity to ride an elephant. We weren't sure how Savannah would like the animals, but we wanted to give it a shot anyway. Let me tell you she LOVEEEED IT! She was transfixed for an hour and a half watching one animal after another. It was entertaining to watch her enjoy it so much! They started the show at 2:00 and you moved from one show to the next. First was the elephants, then the monkey, then the crocodiles, then the birds, and finally the snakes.
The elephants were enchanting! You could buy bananas to feed them with and the elephants were quite eager to get their delicious snack. We got a family picture next to one and enjoyed the show.

| Checking things out. He was BIG! |

The monkey show was rather simple and consisted entirely of watching the monkey climb up a tree and knock down coconuts.
 |
A candid shot before he climbed the tree. He was practicing knocking
the coconuts off of the pole. |
The crocodile show was hard for me to watch because it was two crocodile wranglers doing various dangerous "stunts" with the crocodiles. They did everything from putting their hands to their heads in the crocodile's mouths. Savannah was thoroughly fascinated.
The bird show was nice and easy with cute little tricks. :)

| Riding bicycles on a tight rope. |
 |
| Transfixed. |
 |
| Yay for the birdies! |
The last animal show was the snakes, and not just any snakes, king cobras! Again, this was hard for me to watch because I just kept waiting for the snake to bite hiss handler, and he came close quite a few times!

Our last adventure at the animal park was to take a ride on an elephant. For some reason, I had this idea that riding an elephant would be this graceful, exciting adventure. It was fun for the first five minutes until we started going into the jungle. Then it got SCARY! I'm sure we weren't in any danger at all, but the paths were bumpy and STEEP, so it made us nervous. I kept expecting our elephant to just topple over. Also, riding an elephant is rough to begin with because there is so much shifting and movement with each step. It wasn't what I expected, but I'm happy to say we did it. I think I'll be thoroughly satisfied with only one elephant ride in my lifetime. :)

 |
| Off we go! |
Our last stop of the day was viewing a beautiful waterfall on the island. As we were walking up to the waterfall we saw another spirit house and this one had all sorts of offerings around it including clothes!
 |
| Cloth offerings that were on the tree next to the spirit house. |
 |
| Cluster of spirit houses with an alter in the front. |
The waterfall itself was beautiful!
We loved our afternoon of exploring Koh Samui!!!!
